Fires
The whole world is on fire. We've had no rain in 6 months. The wind is blowing 50 miles an hour and my husband has been fighting fires since noon. So far, all of our land has been spared, but many of our closest friends were not so lucky. I thought the wind might die down after dark, but it is still blowing just as hard as ever. Two small towns and one rather largish one have been evacuated very near here. I am helpless to do anything but worry, wonder and pray.Pray for the panhandle of Texas tonight. UPDATE 3/13/06: Things are ok around my small town. A few houses and lots of grass burned. A tragedy, to be sure, in this parched land, but not as bad as it could have been. They're saying 7 confirmed dead, which is the real tragedy, but considering that 650,000 acres have burned so far, it could have been MUCH worse. The wind has died down today, but is supposed to be bad again tomorrow, so I hope they get them put out today. Rain in the forcast for this weekend, I hope for once the weathermen are right!
